Reconfigurable Assembly Station: A Consumer Goods Industry Paradigm

Abstract This paper discusses the design and implementation of a reconfigurable assembly station that enhance its flexibility, able to perform assembly operations of multi-variant products. Towards the notion of Industry 4.0 concept, new technologies are introduced to the production, such as vision systems, versatile mechatronic devices and robotic solutions, achieving higher flexibility, easier updatability and minimized reprogramming time. Having the Industry 4.0 concept in mind, an assembly station, inspired from the consumer goods industry which combines the aforementioned technologies, has been designed and implemented, providing a more flexible solution compared to the existing, able to easily adapt to different products.
