COPERT Micro: a tool to calculate the vehicle emissions in urban areas

This paper discusses the main characteristics of COPERT Micro software, an Excel/VBA-based tool that calculates the road transport emissions from urban areas. The main points of COPERT Micro methodology are presented, focusing on input data, traffic model interconnection, vehicles classification, emission factors and the calculation procedure. The software application and the user interface are also described. The results from two typical case-studies are presented in order to demonstrate the capabilities of the tool. The main function of COPERT Micro is to assist experts to compile city-scale and other micro-inventories. However, the case-studies revealed that COPERT Micro can also be used to run scenarios in order to investigate the effect of policy measures and the introduction of new technologies on vehicle emissions of a specific area.
