A Consensus Report of the Diabetes in Pregnancy Study Group of North America Conference

The Fourth Annual Meeting of the Diabetes in Pregnancy Study Group of North America was held in Little Rock, Arkansas on May 18–20, 2002. The meeting provided a forum for review of new information concerning the management of pregnancies complicated by pregestational as well as gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). The areas highlighted included new treatment modalities, the ideal blood glucose profile, antepartum testing, lung maturation studies, and the timing and delivery of the macrosomic infant. Consensus panel selection was based on national expertise in diabetes and pregnancy-related research and clinical care. Consensus and recommendations were developed following careful consideration of the research and clinical data presented as well as a review of the literature. The following represent the recommendations reached by the various panels.
