Balancing a three-phase induction motor supplied from a single-phase source with two SVCs

A study is carried out using the Alternative Transients Program (ATP) to simulate a three-phase induction motor fed from a single-phase ac source and balanced with two static var compensators (SVCs). Two methods, a speed feedback (SF) method and a perturbation and observation (PO) method, are proposed to control the SVCs. As per the simulation results, both methods allow the motor to operate as supplied from a balanced three-phase voltage. Performance of the two control methods is discussed and compared.
