Simulation of flow and mass transfer in Taylor flow through a capillary

Abstract The flow pattern, bubble shape and mass transfer in Taylor flow have been calculated using a finite difference program. The shape of the bubble was calculated using a variable-order, variable-step Adams method. The gas-liquid, solid-liquid and gas-liquid-solid mass transfers with chemical reaction on the solid wall have been simulated. The calculations show that the recirculation within the liquid plug and the very thin liquid film between the gas bubble and the wall are the factors that account for the excellent mass transfer in this kind of flow.
