A Methodology for Estimating Potential Safety Benefits for Pre-Production Driver Assistance Systems

5 5 0 7 0-D-5 0-2 2 H N T D 2 3 8 0 2 D M , y e n l O This report develops and demonstrates a methodology for estimating the potential safety benefits of pre-production driver assistance systems. The methodology uses an engineering description of system performance in conjunction with a detailed analysis of crash data to establish objective tests for the system. The results from these tests are combined with additional analysis of crash data files and naturalistic driving data to estimate measures of effectiveness for the system. The two measures of effectiveness used in this report are the Exposure Ratio and the Prevention Ratio. 17.
