A secure method to form microgrids for distribution feeder resiliency improvement

This paper introduces a method for distribution feeder resiliency improvement during emergency/disasters situations. Mixed integer linear programming (MILP) method solves the proposed optimization problem. Based on the DGs locations, feeder is reconfigured and looped microgrids are formed to feed most weighted loads. For secure sharing the feeder data with the distribution management system (DMS), RSA algorithm is used. RSA is one of the practical public-key cryptosystems and is widely used for secure data sharing. RSA is used to secure the date from each node to the DMS as well as the return commands from DMS to each node/switch. The microgrid formation method and the RSA algorithm are applied on the IEEE 37-node test feeder. Two microgrids are formed and an encryption example is explained to show the security process.
