Planning group technology for Davy Morris using production flow analysis

Abstract Production flow analysis (PFA) was used to plan the groups and families for group technology (GT) in a factory making hoists. First, factory flow analysis (FFA) was used to make a division into departments, which completed all the pans they made. Group analysis (GA) was then used to divide these departments into groups, which again completed all the parts they made. The results of the study supports the hypothesis that outside the process industries and some types of mass production, where continuous line flow is preferable, it is always possible to achieve a total division into groups, with few, if any, exceptions.
