APPLICATION OF A KNOWLEDGE-BASED INTELLIGENT SAFETY PREDICTION SYSTEM TO RAILWAY INFRASTRUCTURE MAINTENANCE

The Railway (Safety Case) Regulations 2000 requires railway operators to prepare a comprehensive safety case to demonstrate safety by design, by management and by maintenance, to describe operation requirements for continuing safety assurance by regular review and to set out the arrangements for emergency response. Railway infrastructure controllers may use various safety assessment approaches to study all safety-critical elements of trains and infrastructures, operation management and maintenance to optimize safety. This may encourage railway safety analysts to develop and employ novel safety assessment approaches and to make more efforts to deal with railway safety problems. This paper presents a knowledge-based intelligent safety prediction system for rail design and maintenance. For the covering abstract see ITRD E123761.
