Service brokering in object-based systems: advanced information services

Open object-based systems are emerging as the underlying foundation for the design of large-scale distributed applications. As an integral component of the ISO/ITU-T Reference Model for Open Distributed Processing (RM-ODP), service brokering may be applied at multiple layers of the software hierarchy, spanning distributed operating systems, through telecommunication service provision up to the application domain. This paper presents brokering of services as an essential service in three important application domains which require dynamic location of objects. In addition, it investigates CORBA (Common Object Request Broker Architecture) and Java as possible implementation technologies.
