Information for strategic planning: An analysis

Abstract Criteria for the assessment of the practical utility of strategic information are developed and applied to a variety of strategic information systems. The systems which are explicitly evaluated are real-world ones with which the author has been associated, but the evaluations are held to be generally applicable to the broader classes of systems which each represents. Few strategic information systems are found to meet the criteria, and it is concluded that the area of strategic planning needs much development of both computerized and non-computerized systems of informational support.
