TRIP GENERATION OF CONVENIENCE STORES WITH GAS PUMPS

The purpose of this project was to review the available published literature on trip generation of convenience stores with gas pumps, contact other researchers for any additional unpublished information, and search for any other information that may be of importance. Based on the findings presented in this report, the site trips occurring during the P.M. peak hour of the adjacent street traffic of a convenience store with gas pumps can be predicted by the following equation: Site trips during P.M. peak hour of adjacent street = (0.0382 x GFA) + (16 x Pumps). GFA is the gross floor area of the store in square feet and Pumps is the number of gas pumps by the ITE definition. For predicting average daily site trips, it was found that the average ratio of P.M. peak hour site trips to average daily trips was 6.7% for Florida generators. Dividing the site trips during the P.M. peak hour of the adjacent street, as estimated using the equation above, by 6.7% will produce an estimate of average daily site trips. This is not the only method to predict trips generated by a convenience store with gas pumps, but is one way based strictly on Florida data. The full report contains ways in which site specific factors can be used to help predict trips.
