The error distribution of linear block codes

This paper gives an approximate formula to compute the error spectrum of linear block codes and the relationship between the distribution of errors and the input-redundancy weight enumerating function (IRWEF) of the codes is examined. Numerical results confirm that the given expression is a promising tool to analyze the error distribution of linear block codes. For binary zero tail terminated convolutional codes and block turbo codes, the error spectrum is computed as an explicit function of the block length.
