Process control for increased efficiency. [Industrial plants]

Several aspects of the fuel efficiency maximization problem are reviewed, and solutions obtained recently for selected processes through improved controls are presented. The discussion covers: examples of energy savings to be realized through changes in the design and/or operating strategy of the energy conversion and energy-using subsystems; elements of conventional control technology and their application to combustion systems; and, mathematical modeling and benefits achievable with advanced multi-variable control/optimization techniques applied to boilers, fluid catalytic crackers, and fuel gas generating plants.
