RESETTING SMITH PREDICTOR FOR THE CONTROL OF UNSTABLE SYSTEMS WITH DELAY

Abstract A modification of the Smith Predictor Control schemes is introduced. This modification consists in a periodical resetting of the initial condition of the predictor. It allows to extend the use of these control laws to unstable linear systems with delay. The continuous and discrete implantation of this scheme is considered. The stability of the scheme is proved and sufficient conditions for robustness with respect to parameter uncertainty and delay uncertainty are obtained in the discrete case. An illustrative example is discussed.
