oscillation, etc.), as well as recent trends of precipitation, streamflow and lake level. Chapter 9, on the other hand, introduces flood hydroclimatology. Flash floods and their consequences in Mediterranean Europe and in many parts of the US are discussed. In Chapter 10, the author introduces drought as a consequence of extreme hydroclimatic deficiency of moisture. Several drought indices are introduced. Solar variability, atmospheric circulation as particular cause of drought is discussed. Some examples of areas affected by drought (e.g. West Africa Sahel drought, Western US drought, Midwestern US drought, etc.) are given. Drought as a potential cause of wildfires in many parts of the world is also discussed in this chapter. Generally, the book provides a useful framework for the subject matter of hydroclimatology. The author did not go into the deep quantitative details of the topics covered in the book, as this will require a larger volume. As such, the book is very much suited as an introductory framework for undergraduate students in climate science and hydrology, and also practitioners such as hydrologists, meteorologists, environmental scientists and engineers looking for a broad perspective on this interdisciplinary field.
