The efficient exploitation of photovoltaic electricity

Abstract Due to the continued growth and application of photovoltaic (PV) electric generators, studies have been pursued regarding the efficient exploitation of such electricity, when the generator is directly connected to the battery storage. Many high power systems can be exploited on a seasonal basis; however, a maximum power point tracking (MPPT) system must be employed for this situation to exist throughout the year. Any power loss is unacceptable due to the cost of the generators themeselves. The introduction of microprocessors has resulted in both increased exploitation of PV electricity and the improved power management of such systems. The reliability and cost aspects of electronic systems are justifiable for high power PV systems; however, for lower power PV systems such sophisticated equipment is not, as yet, economically viable.
