DELAY AT LIGHT RAIL TRANSIT GRADE CROSSINGS. INTERIM REPORT

This report represents the results of computer simulation work using Federal Highway Administration's NETSIM model to evaluate the delays incurred by automobile traffic when light rail transit (LRT) vehicles cross arterial streets at-grade. The operation simulated indicates the upper bounds of delay that would occur when light rail transit vehicles operate independently of the traffic signal system. Signal pre-emption, light rail vehicles operating in street medians, and special signal phasing are not considered.
