H centres in alkaline-earth fluorides

It is shown by EPR methods that H centres are produced in alkaline earth fluorides by heavy irradiation with electrons at low temperatures and it is suggested that a very inefficient intrinsic process of radiolysis is involved. From structure observed in the EPR spectrum in SrF2 it appears that H centres may be stabilized at other defect sites and that observed effects of intrinsic radiolysis may be controlled to some extent by impurities.
