Removal and Repair

It is common for concrete to be removed prior to making a repair to a concrete structure and removal methods such as blasting, crushing, cutting, and impacting are listed in this chapter. Stitch and thermal cutting are further examples of removal outlined. Impacting methods involve the use of some sort of mass to hit concrete repeatedly and boom-mounted concrete breakers, spring-action hammers, and hand-held impact breakers are all methods explained in this chapter. Prep work such as chemical cleaning, mechanical cleaning, shot blasting, and blast cleaning are defined in the repair section of this chapter. Repair methods including steel reinforcement and anchors complete the removal and repair part of this book.
