Factors Influencing Promotion to Army Colonel

Abstract : This research is part of a larger effort to develop improved performance evaluation techniques for use by Army personnel management agencies in making decisions on school and duty assignments and promotions. Specifically, the study analyzed the present promotion system and the information used by the Promotion Board in making selections. The study has the following objectives: To determine the relative importance of each record factor available to the Promotion Board; to develop the best combination of factors which identify the board's selections; and to determine whether promotion factors differ according to branch or branch group. In the broadest sense the study is an effort to duplicate the Promotion Board decisions, after the fact.
