SummaryIn the late re-examination of 100 patients with herniated lumbar disc, the symptoms 10 years after hospitalization were found to be evenly distributed between the operated group and the group which had received conservative treatment. The main symptom, the lumbar pains, seems to be dependent upon the motility of the lumbar spine and the deficiency of the dorsal lumbar muscles.
