StarChainedER: a Conceptual Model for Data Warehouse Design

Some demands for subsequent quality analysis in the data warehouse construction under process industry environment. That is to say, the technical parameters in previous working procedure may be influenced the product quality in the next working procedure. In order to modeling this case, a conceptual model for data warehouse modeling, star chained ER model is proposed in this paper. In this model, the notion of chained Fact Subject introduced, and the measure is given the transitive or non transitive feature additionally. The graphic presentation of the model and the transformation rules from the conceptual model to logical dimensional schema are given. Star chained ER model can be transformed into star schema or snowflake schema easily.
