Characteristics analysis of AC arc fault in time and frequency domain

According to the recent research, the analysis of AC arc fault is based on the constant frequency system. The characteristics extracted in the constant frequency system such as the variation rate of current, the ratio of “flat shoulder” and the harmonic change with frequency. Therefore, it cannot apply to the variable frequency system. In this paper, the AC arc experiment platform is built, and the serial and parallel arc faults are simulated under the condition of 115V/360Hz-800Hz. Based on that, the change rule of arc current under different frequency is analyzed. Then, the characteristic of AC arc fault is studied in time domain and frequency domain respectively. The characteristics of AC arc fault are extracted: the standard deviation of the current rms(root mean square), the standard deviation of DC component and the sum of odd harmonic, which can apply to the variable frequency system.
