A new estimator for elliptic localization in distributed MIMO radar systems

This paper deals with the problem of estimating the location of a single target from time difference of arrival (TDOA) measurements by using a multi-transmitter multi-receiver radar system with widely separated antennas. The method is based on the intersection of the ellipsoids defined by bistatic range (BR) measurements from a number of transmitters and receivers. A closed-form one-step target position estimator is developed, which can determine the target position uniquely with one less transmitter/receiver in comparison with the other previous work. Numerical simulations are included to support and corroborate the theoretical developments.
