Field Experiment of Dredged Spoil Solidified with Cement for Marine Reclamation Works

Dredged spoils being treated by solidification method provides an effectual way to convert dredged spoils into useful filling materials. The method has not been used in practical projects in China. The authors carried out an insitu experiment of dredged spoils stabilized by cement at Yantian Port,Shenzhen, China. The unconfined compression tests and in-situ Static Cone Penetration tests were conducted on the foundation pits filled with stabilized dredged spoils. The unconfined compression strength has a linear relationship with the cement content, the strength of samples taken from the foundation decreased 10%-50% to that of samples made in the laboratory. The bearing capacity of the spoil-filled foundation can meet the demand of port engineering, and dredged spoil solidified with cement may be used as fill material for marine reclamation works.
