A Tribute to Susan L. McBride: December 5, 1948, to November 7, 2000

career working with and for families grew right along with the field of early intervention. During her graduate training, Susan worked with one of the first programs that served infants and parents together. She also worked as one of the first disability coordinators providing support for practitioners through a Head Start regional training and technical assistance center. These experiences with individuals from a variety of disciplines, philosophical perspectives, and experiences, all grappling to understand how to provide services to young children and their families, shaped her early visions of service delivery. Beginning with these early experiences, Susan sought to understand the challenges parents face in raising young children and how service systems might be arranged to support families in those endeavors.
