Optimized setting of directional overcurrent relays via genetic algorithm

The coordination of overcurrent relays in transmission systems plays an important role in ensuring a safe and reliable energy supply. This type of coordination requires a complex protection engineering study, thus demanding a great deal of time and non-optimized parameters, mainly in large-scale systems. Therefore, this work strives to optimally find the values of multiple of time and pick-up current for the directional protection, through a genetic algorithm such that these parameters are coordinated with each other and with the protection of distance.
