DELIGHT IN DAYLIGHT: EFFECT OF WINDOW ARRANGEMENTS ON THE QUANTITY AND QUALITY OF DAYLIGHT

SUMMARY There is an emergence of improved daylight data for prediction of energy saving from photoelectric controls. Some Melbourne data of external horizontal illuminance and availability of sunlight is given. For the home designer this information can give a greater awareness of the potential of daylight and sunlight to give form and charcter to an interior, and thus a greater sense of purpose to the design. Some experiences in the observation of the differences discernible in interiors with overcast and non-overcast skies are described both with actual rooms and models of rooms.
