Nonlinear Characterization of Fiber Optic Submarine Cables

We introduce a method to characterize the nonlinear properties of submarine cables. Based on the inverse back-to-back method and the GN model, the fiber effective area has been estimated with excellent accuracy in independent 9000km-QPSK and 3240km-16QAM experiments.
