Requirements of the various directives affected by CE marking

This chapter provides an overview of the New Approach Directives, their structure, objectives, essential requirements, and proof of conformity, and their individual requirements for CE Marking. The technical and administrative requirements for CE Marking vary between Directives, within Directives, and between different industrial product categories. Marking needs some form of third-party involvement in assessing the industrial product and/or the industrial production facility. Directive requires that electrical equipment may be placed on the market only if it has been constructed in accordance with good engineering practice in safety matters in force in the Community. Industrial products are presumed to conform to the safety objectives of the Low Voltage Directive (LVD) where the equipment has been manufactured in accordance with harmonized technical standards. Legally binding obligations include everything necessary for the protection of the public interest—safety of products, protection of workers, protection of consumers, health, and environmental protection.
