An Approach of Reducing Overhead in Luby Transform Codes

Luby Transform (LT) codes are specific type of fountain codes, which provide a highly reliable transmission over Bit Erasure Channels (BEC). However, the overhead and time-delay would be unacceptably large under extremely bad channel conditions. In this paper, we propose a new scheme to solve this problem by modifying the encoding process of LT codes. The modifications can reduce the overhead, power consumption and time-delay dramatically. And the notable improvement of performance can be seen from the theoretical analysis and simulation results.
