This research was accomplished with the purpose of
analyzing how the companies can use Radio Frequency Identification
(RFID) as source of competitive advantage. Because this theme is
relatively new in research, an exploratory qualitative methodology
was adopted. For the accomplishment of the field research we
adopted a unique case study, which was developed in a public
company of transportation area, with headquarters in Sao Paulo,
Brazil, that that already uses that technology. A structured
protocol of interview was adopted containing opened questions and
based in the main items of the used bibliographical research. The
applied technique for treatment of the obtained information was the
content analysis. Among the most important results observed in the
research, it was pointed out the difficulty of the implantation of
this technology and his effect in the competitiveness of the
studied company.
