MSRLab6: An IPv6 Wireless Sensor Networks Testbed

In the future, TCP/IPv6 may be the viable protocol family for sensor networks. IETF has already built 6LoWPAN working group whose goal was to transmit the IPv6 packets over IEEE 802.15.4 specifications. We build a testbed supporting the IEEE 802.15.4 standard to validate the Internet draft "Transmission of IPv6 Packets over IEEE 802.15.4 WPAN Networks". It provides IPv6 based Ethernet access and end-to-end communication with the PC terminal, supporting the remote parameter configuration and management by the Web interface. This paper introduces the hardware structure of sensor network node and sink. A tiny IPv6 protocol stack for embedded system and a dynamic route protocol are also implemented. A temperature measurement and feedback control experiment for smart home is also accomplished via this testbed, which indicate that this testbed is useful and effective
