Logging residue resulting from an intermediate harvest of a second growth redwood stand

Residues greater than 1.5 inch diameter and greater than 4 ft long were estimated 6 year after selection felling that removed 45% of the coniferous b.a. of a second-growth redwood (Sequoia sempervirens) stand in Jackson Demostration State Forest, California. Logging was done by a cable system, producing 844 cu ft residue per acre or by tracted or wheeled tractords, producing 554 cu ft residue per acre. Salvaging the small residual volume would be uneconomic at present.
