During the 1930s and 1940s, L. J. Comrie was the leading mathematical table maker in Britain. His tables were well known throughout the world for their accuracy and ease of use. In addition to making mathematical tables, Comrie was very influential in persuading scientists to use commercial desk calculating and accounting machines to mechanize their computational work.
