Fuzzy Expert System for Construction Vibration Risk Prediction

Foundation works induce construction vibration, which has a significant influence on the surrounding environment and may damage existing buildings, or disturb occupants or vibration sensitive equipment. The result is a risk faced by project owner which should be predicted before construction. This risk is more difficult to predict and the uncertainty is often greater than for general construction. In this paper, a fuzzy expert system is built based on fuzzy logic to predict the construction vibration risk. The production knowledge structure and Mamdani inference method are used, and the Matlab fuzzy logic toolbox and Simulink are used to develop the system. After describing the fuzzy expert system, this paper provides an example to illustrate the application of the method.
