The measurement of ultrasonic echoes round trip times in the 10 to 100 nanoseconds range is nowadays currently performed. The problem of overlapping echoes remains however to be solved in the ultrasonic non destructive evaluation (NDE) area, mainly for the thickness measurement apparatuses and the high frequency imaging systems. This paper deals with some digital signal processing techniques, which may prove efficient in the time resolution enhancement by optimizing the overall impulse response of the ultrasonic system.
