Seismic response of structural systems to response-spectrum-compatible accelerograms: A comparative study

This paper addresses the study of the seismic response of structures to response-spectrumcompatibleearthquakes.The number of methodologies proposed in the last three decades testifies the importanceof this subject in the scientific community, however the implications of the selection of modeling and hypothesisadopted and the impact on the structural response have not been thoroughly yet highlighted. This paper aimsto compare the response to the widely used Gaussian quasi-stationary and non-stationary approaches alongwith the most novel non-stationary model with imposed variability. The SMART benchmark structure has beenused to compare the impact of the hypothesis adopted in the analysis of the reliability. The major novelty ofthis contribution relies on the evidence that the model adopted for the simulation might conduct to responsessignificantly even for the case of linear behaving structures.
