Technique to Extract Immature Stages of Lycoriella mali from Mushroom-Growing Media

A method is described for separating the eggs, larvae, and pupae of a mushroom pest, Lycoriella mali (Fitch), from mushroom-growing media. The infested material in water is poured onto a 16-mesh sieve screen inserted into a 140-mesh sieve. The material caught in the 140-mesh sieve is shaken in 60% sucrose solution. Then the supernatant is poured through a 140-mesh screen and the residue is centrifuged in a 40% sucrose solution. The supernatant contains little except the immature stages of L. mali .
