Effect of Wear on Pivot Thrust Bearings

Theoretical and experimental studies of pivot thrust bearings are presented, with special emphasis on the effect of wear on design parameters. Carbon on steel unlubricated wear tests supported the theory. Theoretical equations are presented for several pivot geometries based on the Archard Wear Law. Contributed by the ASLE Committee on Lubricant Fundamentals and presented at the Annual Meeting of American Society of Lubrication Engineers, held in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, May 3–5, 1966.
