Smart metering based approach for phase balancing in low voltage distribution systems

The paper proposes a heuristic approach to resolve the phase balancing problem in LV distribution networks. The approach is based upon the recordings of electricity of the consumers (endowed with smart meters) for a week-long study period. The results obtained for a real LV distribution feeder that serves a rural area using the information provided by smart meters demonstrate the performance of proposed approach, leading at a decrease of energy losses (from 6.43% to 2.49%).
