DYNAMIC PSYCHOVISUAL BIT ALLOCATION FOR IMPROVED QUALITY BIT RATE IN MPEG-2 TRANSMISSION OVER ATM LINKS

In ATM networks, to prevent congestion, the bandwidth allocated to a video sources can be changed to optimise the overall quality of service (QOS). In this scenario it is very important to obtain the best match between video quality and available bandwidth. The authors present a new feedback/feedforward controller, for MPEG-2 coding, that dynamically tunes the quantisation parameters by analysing the image sequence from a psychovisual point of view. The system generates images with higher quality with respect to the standard Test Model 5.
