Parametric Tolerance Specification of an Electromechanical Actuator

One of the most critical tasks in engineering is controlling the parametric variability as its ignorance may induce non-robust designs. In this work, we are interested in the design of mechatronics system. The aim of this paper is to specify the allowable parametric tolerances on the system parameters using the variational approach. This improves the robustness of the system by determining the uncertainty, which ensures the desired behavior. It has the advantage of being generic and easy to implement in the case of independent parameters. More precisely, the aim of this paper is to present a method to help engineers in the choice of components and in the synthesis of parameters tolerance with respect to specification. The example of an electromechanical actuator driving an aircraft primary flight control surface (aileron) is chosen to illustrate the approach.
