CHANGING AIR TRANSPORTATION SERVICES FOR SMALLER METROPOLITAN REGIONS: 1980-1982

Few industries have enjoyed the extraordinary expansion that has characterized the air transportation industry. The basic purpose of this study is to evaluate the question of changing air transportation services to smaller metropolitan regions. The changing configuration of a metropolitan area's "regional air service network" is an excellent indicator of the availability of commercial air transport services. An air terminal's route network is a critical determinant of the effectiveness of that terminal since this network determines the potential travel choices that are available to the regions residents. The study uses "partial regional air service network" maps for assessing changes in air transportation availability at three Midwestern metropolitan locations.
