A Capability Maturity Proposal for Usability and Accessibility Centered Processes

The assurance of both usability and accessibility is an important concern in software development today. However, while a great deal of attention has been paid from the product's perspective, little or poor attention has been paid from the process's point of view. Despite this, the capability maturity of usability and accessibility processes should be considered and measured. To take up this challenge, this paper describes the conception of a capability maturity model named MODECUA, which provides a framework to evaluate development processes based on usability and accessibility. Due to the absence of current solutions to integrate usability and accessibility together from the process's perspective, the proposed model has been developed by extending and adapting general capability maturity models. MODECUA features the integration of well-known standards to determine the capability and maturity degree in the software development, being useful to provide suggestions and improve user-centred processes.
