Component value ranges of tunable impedance matching networks in RF communications systems

A new method is proposed for determination of the ranges of component values of tunable impedance matching networks for a given region of antenna impedance, or a band of operation frequency, or both a region of impedance and a band of frequency. The method is analytical, accurate, and simple. It takes both the maximum power transfer and harmonic rejection into consideration. Simulation results are presented. The application of the method in automatic antenna tuning units is also discussed.
