Self-Assembly of 1-D Chains of Different Topologies Using the Hydrogen-Bonded Inorganic Supramolecular Synthons N-H.Cl(2)M or N-H.Cl(3)M.

The first application of bifurcated N−H···Cl2Pt and trifurcated N−H···Cl3Pt hydrogen bonds as inorganic supramolecular synthons is demonstrated in the self-assembly of linear and zigzag hydrogen-bonded chains. Columnar and sheet structures have been obtained by using octahedrally coordinated (round) and square-planar coordinated (flat) metal centers, respectively. In the latter case, cross-linking of the 1-D assemblies into sheets is accomplished in part via short C−H···Pt hydrogen bonds.
