Visualisation of EPS Spacecraft / Ground Segment Housekeeping Information for Remote Users via Internet

The EUMETSAT Polar System (EPS) is Europe’s first polar orbiting operational meteorological satellite system and it is the European contribution to the Initial Joint PolarOrbiting Operational Satellite System (IJPS). In this joint European-US polar satellite system, EUMETSAT has the operational responsibility for the "morning orbit" with the Metop satellites. In the frame of the development of the EPS Ground Segment for Metop-A, the need was identified to provide various types of satellite and also ground segment housekeeping information to remote users, either not located at EUMETSAT or outside the Main Control Room. This functionality was not only required for the satellite commissioning but also for the routine operations, in particular to support the investigation of anomalies. The paper presents the technical implementation of this functionality, and provides feedback from the actual usage of this telemetry remote access service during the Metop-A Launch and Early Orbit Phase (LEOP), the Satellite In-Orbit Verification Phase and from its current usage in the operational phase.
