Stability of multilobe hybrid bearing with short sills—part II

Stability of a rigid rotor supported on multilobe hybrid journal bearing with short sills has been investigated using the stiffness and damping coefficients of the bearing and following linear vibration theory for small amplitude oscillations of the journal centre about its steady state position. It has been found that multilobe hybrid bearings with offset factor more than one are more stable than circular hybrid bearings and also that four lobe bearings are, stability wise, better than three lobe bearings.
